Safety

Overview

GM’s Global Workplace Safety organization is built on the principle that safety is everyone’s responsibility and is central to GM’s purpose, vision, and daily operations. The organization is committed to creating a safer and smarter world, with a strong focus on accountability, employee engagement, and continuous improvement in workplace safety practices.

GM’s Global Workplace Safety program encompasses a comprehensive set of tools, processes, and standards designed to protect employees and ensure regulatory compliance worldwide.

The organization’s approach includes incident management, safety tours and inspections, employee engagement, action tracking, and technical enablers such as data integration and KPI dashboards.

Key Benefits

The primary objective is to return people home safely. EVERY person. EVERY site. EVERY day.

Employee Engagement & Action Tracking: Employees are actively involved in safety tours, inspections, and reporting safety concerns, fostering a culture of shared responsibility and proactive risk management.

Comprehensive Incident Management: Streamlined processes for reporting, investigating, and tracking workplace incidents ensure timely corrective actions and regulatory compliance.

Confidential Reporting Channels: Multiple avenues, including mobile and anonymous options, empower employees to report safety concerns securely and confidentially.

Global Consistency: Standardized tools and processes ensure that safety practices are consistent across all GM locations, supporting both local and global regulatory requirements.

Data-Driven Decision Making: KPI reports and dashboards provide real-time insights into incidents, action plans, and safety performance, enabling data-driven improvements.

Integration with Other Systems: Technical enablers allow for integration with HR, site access, and third-party systems, enhancing the effectiveness and reach of safety programs.

Getting Access

All requests to access GM data must be reviewed and approved by GM’s privacy team via the Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) tool. GM’s PIA tool helps to identify, assess, and mitigate privacy risks associated with a particular product or service—especially when it collects, uses, stores, or shares personal data. If a PIA has not been approved for your use case, you can submit one using the link: epia.gm.com.
